Greek Deacon singing at Pedro's Day

Monday, October 22, 2012

A Greek Deacon sang the Gospel in Greek, symbolizing the Union of the Latin and the Greek Churches, during the canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod and his companions on World Mission Sunday. The Gospel according to St. Mark is about the 2 disciples, John and James asking Jesus for a favor to sit near him in Heaven. Jesus refused their request, for the ultimate requirement for us to go to Heaven as Jesus said is to be a servant, a servant to Him and to His children. Our Saint Pedro Calungsod followed the words of Christ as he took part in a journey with Fr. Sanvitores in Guam. He did not go with fear or to go for personal gain, but went to preach to love of Christ to the natives. Because of this, he died as a martyr, a witness to Christ's glory and received his eternal reward for his dedicated service to His master. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWaUVNOGubs&feature=plcp

“The Baptism of King Volodymyr unites Christians and is the foundation of community and government life,”

Thursday, August 2, 2012

News from the UGCC Information Department “Krylos is a special place for us because it is here that we are able to touch the foundations of the Ecumenical Council of the Kings of Halych. For UGCC, as for all Ukrainians, a pilgrimage to the village of Krylos is an opportunity to touch the roots of our spiritual church legacy. For us it is important that the roots which we have here be not dead but alive,” explained His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), UGCC Head,in answering a journalist’s question on July 29, 2012 during the All-Ukrainian Patriarchal Pilgrimage to the Galician Miraculous Icon of the Blessed Mother in the village Krylos.in Ivano-Frankivsk region. The Church Primate noted that UGCC is already in its second year of preparation for the commemoration of the 1025th Jubilee of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine which will take place in 2013. Therefore, within the context of carrying out this All-Ukrainian Pilgrimage, UGCC Head told media representatives, it is important that all Ukrainians, not only Greek-Catholics, but al, feel that the Baptism of King Volodymyr is that which unites Christians and is the foundation of community and government life.” His Beatitude Sviatoslav feels that it is important that youth can recognize this foundation. “Metropolitan Andrey (Sheptytsky) in the 1930s blessed the archeologist Yaroslav Pasternak to work on unearthing the foundations of the Assumption Cathedral and researching the history of Ancient Halych. I believe that Bishop Andrey accomplished a great deed and we should assume responsibility for this legacy, which is ours today,” said UGCC Primate. In conversing with journalists, the UGCC Primate emphasized that during the pilgrimage to Krylos a special focus was on the children who this year partook for the first time in the Holy Sacraments, those of Confession and the Eucharist. Another special feature of the pilgrimage, according to UGCC Head, was that Ancient Halych, even in the new administrative order of UGCC, being on the territory of the newly-created Ivano-Frankivsk Metropolitanate of UGCC, falls under the jurisdiction of the Kyiv-Halych Head Archbishop. “In uniting both ancient thrones – Kyiv and Halych – we want to preserve the unity and indivisibility of this Ancient Church which was born in the Dnipro waters during the Baptism of Volodymyr. Therefore an important objective in carrying out this pilgrimage was that children would embrace this legacy and would feel themselves in the center of the attention of their Chuch, comprehending the greatness and the youth of UGCC that today blossoms in Ukraine,” concluded His Beatitude Sviatoslav. At the end, he reassured all present that the best UGCC cadres will be present in Halych, so that each one who comes here, receives a qualified answer to one’s question and service, because here is the face of the Church.

We pray for our Holy Universal Pontiff, Benedict XVI, Pope of Rome

In 2006, the Pope dropped the use of the Title of the "Patriarch of Rome and All West" to emphasized the very fact that he is not only the Head of the Latin Rite or the Western Church but the Catholic Church as a whole.

Let me quote some words from His Holiness Pope Benedict, which like the other Popes, has served as the Protector of the Traditions been preserved by the Eastern Rite, here are some of his words as follows:

"In our day too, the Church in America is called to embrace, incorporate and cultivate the rich patrimony of faith and culture present in America’s many immigrant groups, including not only those of your own rites, but also the swelling numbers of Hispanic, Asian and African Catholics. The demanding pastoral task of fostering a communion of cultures within your local Churches must be considered of particular importance in the exercise of your ministry at the service of unity (cf. Directory for the Pastoral Ministry of Bishops, 63). This diaconia of communion entails more than simply respecting linguistic diversity, promoting sound traditions, and providing much-needed social programs and services. It also calls for a commitment to ongoing preaching, catechesis and pastoral activity aimed at inspiring in all the faithful a deeper sense of their communion in the apostolic faith and their responsibility for the Church’s mission in the United States. Nor can the significance of this challenge be underestimated: the immense promise and the vibrant energies of a new generation of Catholics are waiting to be tapped for the renewal of the Church’s life and the rebuilding of the fabric of American society."

For those who have noticed he have said it on the visiting Eastern Rite Catholic Bishops of the United States, at the same time it has coincided with a slight uproar because of the Comments of the Prefect of the Congregation for Eastern Church on regards of Celibacy. Nevertheless it is important here that His Holiness Pope Benedict deeply stress the importance of Eastern Church on regards of Spirituality

May the Good lord grant His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI many years

"Mary, "Mother of the star that never sets,"(67) "dawn of the mystical day,"(68) "rising of the sun of glory,"(69) shows us the Orientale Lumen.

Every day in the East the sun of hope rises again, the light that restores life to the human race. It is from the East, according to a lovely image, that our Savior will come again (cf. Mt 24:27).
For us, the men and women of the East are a symbol of the Lord who comes again. We cannot forget them, not only because we love them as brothers and sisters redeemed by the same Lord, but also because a holy nostalgia for the centuries lived in the full communion of faith and charity urges us and reproaches us for our sins and our mutual misunderstandings: we have deprived the world of a joint witness that could, perhaps, have avoided so many tragedies and even changed the course of history.

May God shorten the time and distance. May Christ, the Orientale Lumen, soon, very soon, grant us to discover that in fact, despite so many centuries of distance, we were very close, because together -- perhaps without knowing it -- we were walking towards the one Lord, and thus towards one another."
- ORIENTALE LUMEN, HIS HOLINESS BLESSED POPE JOHN PAUL II

Friday, May 25, 2012

Hymn

Troparion (Tone 4)
O Christ God, You have ascended in Glory,
Granting joy to Your disciples by the promise of the Holy Spirit.
Through the blessing they were assured
That You are the Son of God,
The Redeemer of the world!
Kontakion (Tone 6)
When You did fulfill the dispensation for our sake,
And unite earth to Heaven:
You did ascend in glory, O Christ our God,
Not being parted from those who love You,
But remaining with them and crying:
I am with you and no one will be against you.

As a Result

Thursday, May 24, 2012

‎"The cardinal (Leonardo Sandri, prefect of the Congregation for Eastern Churches) urged care in helping young people discern their vocation, "maintaining formation programs, integrating immigrant priests (and) embracing celibacy in respect of the ecclesial context" of the United States where mandatory celibacy is the general rule for priests." I think this may result into uproar(IMO) for the ranks of the Greek Catholics particularly in the US, for the Cardinal "urged" them to embrace the discipline of the Latin Church, which is celibacy. Noah doesn't want his Eastern brethren to follow the footsteps of Saint Alexius Toth who was outraged with the Archbishop Ireland's decision to impose Latinized policies(such as clerical celibacy) in the Byzantine Church which resulted to the Saint's schism with Rome. The saddest event which followed by another schism like in 1935. We in ERCF don't want to see events repeated in the past. We pray for understanding between these parties, including those who are hurt on reading my friend's post about it. I hope the good Cardinal will read the letter written by Bishop Isidore (Borecky) of Toronto to Blessed Pope John Paul II about clerical celibacy: From the September 1989 issue of the Corpus Canada Journal, we take the following: Eparch Isidore Borecky pleads with the Pope for married priests (excerpt from a letter to Pope John Paul II, April 15, 1989 protesting Vatican attempts to prohibit married Ukrainian Catholic clergy from exercising ministry in Canada) "Over the last century, the attempt to impose celibacy has not succeeded, but it has provoked at least three schisms in North America, as follows: 1. The schism led by Archpriest Alexis Toth commencing in Minneapolis in 1891. The vast majority of members of the Russian Orthodox Churches in the U.S. and Canada are descended from former Catholics who left the Church through this movement; 2. The schism which formed the Ukrainian Greek-Orthodox Church of Canada during and after the First World War. Except for new immigrants, virtually all the members of this denomination are former Catholics and their descendants; 3. The celibacy schism of the 1930's in the U.S. led by Father (later Metropolitan) Orestes Chornock, which resulted in the formation of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Diocese and its reception into the Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople. These schisms were attended by acrimonious court battles, disgraceful public spectacles which resulted in many enduring wounds to the body of Christ, the Church, and serious scandals to the detriment of the Catholic cause. They are still a major obstacle to ecumenical relations.... Hierarchs of Ukraine have been ordaining married priests and sending them to us for a century, from Metropolitan Sylvester Cardinal Sembratovynch, through Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky, Joseph Cardinal Slipyj (who in Rome itself ordained at least 46 such priests for the diaspora without any objection from the Holy See) and now the present Eastern Catholic hierarchs in Ukraine. At the very least, Your Holiness, surely it is not improper to ask for an explanation of this complete innovation. Since Pope Pius Xll established the Eparch of Toronto we have received married priests who were ordained in Ukraine or elsewhere in Europe on the instruction of Cardinal Tisserant, and until today there has been no objection. How, When, and Why has this policy changed? Any attempt to prevent the priests ordained in Ukraine from exercising the sacred ministry would provoke an immediate and vehement protest from the faithful, and even from the reverend clergy. These priests have been received with very great joy, and they are carrying out much needed pastoral work. Suddenly interrupting that work now would do irreparable harm to the peace of the Church here."

In your Latin Eyes only :P

Monday, May 21, 2012

I do not like to make any comment, but the Statement given by His Eminence Leonardo Sandri, the Prefect of the Eastern Catholic Church, is quite disturbing. Reminding me that Once upon a time, a Latin rite Hierarch show his Bull headed attitude to a Greek Catholic Priest which cause Major Schism in the Americas in the 19th Century. By the way the Prefect of this Sacred Congregation is not even a Eastern Catholic, but a Latin Rite, so as to give you a hint on him. Here is the following quotations of his Address to the Bishop

‎"The cardinal (Leonardo Sandri, prefect of the Congregation for Eastern Churches) urged care in helping young people discern their vocation, "maintaining formation programs, integrating immigrant priests (and) embracing celibacy in respect of the ecclesial context" of the United States where mandatory celibacy is the general rule for priests."

This one gave me the creeps. It seems the Cardinal forget that Eastern Rite Catholic Churches has a unbroken Tradition of Married Priesthood. He also does not forget Married Eastern Catholics are the reason why Archbishop John Ireland refused to recognized Alexis Toth on ministering Greek Catholics is the reason he is a Married Priest. Let us not forget the Ea Semper and Cum data fuerit, which have restrained Celibacy in the Priesthood, resulting to a Schism lead by Msgr. Orestes Chornock. Also, in the Latin Rite, Married Priest also exist, namely in the Anglican Use Personal Ordinariates, though Latin rite holds the Tradition of maintaining Celibate Priests

As usual, this Comment have produced Opinions from Eastern Catholics and even Orthodox as well, so here is the other Article which i see, has prove that once again  the likes of Archbishop John Ireland and Latin Rite supremacist are now making their presence felt:

It has been widely center of talk in the United States. And the Cardinal, if ever i gave him a Benefit of a Doubt, i will not do so because at the first instance, he is a Latin Rite Ordinary, does he know everything on Eastern Catholic Church, i hope it is because by the way he speaks History will happened again, People like him in the Roman Curia is making Complications affecting Eastern Catholics

Honestly i have goosebumps every time i post this Picture. The same People who have forced Alexis Toth on jumping to Orthodoxy are the same People telling Eastern Catholics to do the same. You want Union, sorry to say but Thanks but no Thanks at all. This is the price of becoming a Eastern Catholic, its either you get persecuted by not just the Orthodox but their Brethren Latin Catholic as well

Below will be another Article which is a letter written by a Ruthenian Greek Catholic Priest to his Metropolitan Archbishop which is performing a Ad Limina visit in Rome

Catholic in Communion, Orthodox in Faith!!!

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Everyone who have read this Blog and even Visit our Facebook Fan Page, are aware that i am Attending Church Services in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Annunciation in Paranaque, the Seat of the Philippine Exarchate of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the first among the ranks in the Eastern Orthodox Communion. So does it mean that i am already leaving Catholicism?!! I do not need to answer this question myself because deep in my heart I have only one conviction: that the Pope is the Universal Pontiff Head of the Church and the Vicar of Christ on Earth, This conviction of mine will not be moved even by the majesty and grandeur and solemnity of Eastern Rite spirituality and worship as I experienced and witnessed myself in the Orthodox Church." I am just there to Attend and Appreciate Eastern Spirituality and the Solemnity of their Divine Liturgies, which i cannot describe how it looks like, unlike the Liturgy of the Roman Church, i can truly say whether i am in Earth or Heaven, as the Envoys of St. Volodymyr of Kyiv have acclaimed on witnessing the same Liturgy i have witness. The very first time i see a Iconostasis and lost of Icons in my whole life :)

Me, Yours truly, in a Green Polo Attending the Service of the 12 Gospels on Maundy Thursday, the Eastern Rite Holy Week in the Julian Paschalion

Honestly i have truly recognized the Solemnity and the Dignity of the Sacred Liturgies of the East, even though i have attended it into the Greek Orthodox themselves, i have put a high regards specially on their Spirituality. No Church issues here, i can truly say that i am  ORTHODOX for i am a True Believing Christian, abjuring any kinds of Heresies at the same i am a CATHOLIC in Communion with the Holy Father, the Guardian of not just different Churches but of all Liturgies, whether they are in the West or East, though i have experience my Eastern Rite Liturgies to the Orthodox and not Greek Catholics

For those whose say that i am not retaining my Obedience and Loyalty to the Holy Universal Pontiff, well i cannot please anyone but the Pictures of the Pope will say that this Blog is in UNION WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, AND RECOGNIZING THE JURIDICAL AUTHORITY OF THE POPE!!!

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, Holy Universal Pontiff of the Catholic Church and Pope of Rome, blessing the faithful and the clergies using Dikirion and Trikirion in the Melkite Greek Catholic Cathedral of Amman, Jordan on his Holy Land Visit

Canadian Parliament Recognizing the Efforts done by Metropolitan Andrey (Sheptytsky) in saving the Jews during WWII.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

With the leaders of different religions in Ukraine witnessing the event, the Canadian Parliament recognized the efforts of Metropolitan Andrey (Sheptytsky), leader of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, in saving countless Jews during World War II and vocal in renouncing the atrocities done by Nazi officials in World War II against Jews and Ukrainians. Here is the text of his pastoral letter "Thou Shalt not Kill" written on the 21st of November, 1942. Sorry for it is written in Ukrainian and I hope that someone would translate them in English.

XXV). – Ч. 11.– С. 179-180, 183.]"

Holy Week 2012: A Little Delay

Friday, April 13, 2012

For those who wonder why are we posting Posts related to Holy Week though might say we are Mistaken for Holy Week has just ended, well it has ended yes in the Gregorian Paschalion but the Julian Paschalion makes the Eastern Rite Holy Week advance of one week which is now being observed by Eastern Rite Orthodox and some Eastern Rite Catholics as well. So i say it this Week is the Great and Holy Week for our Eastern Christian brethren observing it in the Old Calendar

The very reason why we delay on Greeting everyone of a Happy Easter is we will give the necessary Salutation once the Night of the Great and Holy Saturday comes, the Night where the is going to be Held a Paschal Vigil in honour of the Risen Lord.

More Article will be posted, not just of our Eastern Rite Catholic brothers observing Holy Week right now, but other Eastern Rite Christians as well
